Great answer, but I disagree with the last paragraph. SSAA, also known as FSAA, removes "jags" from an image by rendering the image at a higher resolution: Full-scene anti-aliasing by supersampling usually means that each full frame is rendered at double 2x or quadruple 4x the display resolution, and then down-sampled to match the display resolution.

Wikipedia's Supersampling article actually provides a great image showing why more samples mean better accuracy: All this being said, the order in which DiRT2 lists its anti-aliasing options looks perplexing, to say the least. At 4k, you don't really need AA. Maybe 2xMSAA at most. But now I don't see the menu or the game. Only green screen.

Pingus View Profile View Posts. After hitting "apply", the games turns greenish but it remains responsive as you can hear the sound in the background when hitting up and down. Switching to 8xMSAA solved it.

It all depends what resolution you are running at. I run at x, and at the distance I sit I cannot honestly see any real different on any setting over 4x AA whatever fancy preface it has on it , if I sit staring at a static screen I will notice, but when gaming its unnoticeable.

The same goes for AF, after 4 or 8, its very hard to justify the extra work done by your graphics card. I would experiment with the settings and frame rates and see what works for you.

At higher resolutions the need for AA becomes less as a the same diagonal line has many many more smaller lines of pixels which make it up. Matticus , 12 Dec
