Here, within a unique architectural emporium, the antiques themselves are for sale as part of a spirited homage to good taste. Since I mainly perceive this through scent, the opportunity to create a fragrance with Illuminum that would not only stir me, but also represent a range of hard-to-articulate feelings about cuisine, was fascinating.
This collaboration with Illuminum is a chance to show off his dazzling talent for drama, story, spectacle and cultural allusion.

Fragrantica gives very different top notes — namely just coconut and nothing else — but it matters not one jot to the final impression which is: synthetic, floral, air freshener; soap; hair spray; and cheap shampoo.
Given that Michael Boadi began as a hairdresser before making it big, I find it sadly coincidental that a man who left that world to create perfumes ended up making something that is a full-circle return to hair salons.
As many of you know by now, the note that I abhor above all others is soapy and clean, particularly if the fragrance evokes laundry detergent or fabric softener and is expensive to boot.
I simply cannot handle it. I shall have to ponder their relative ghastliness. The opening seconds of White Gardenia Petals on my skin was a sharp note of pure rubbing alcohol, only rendered floral.
Then, there is an explosion of a thin, artificially airy — but simultaneously heady — shampoo note, with a heavy backdrop of Dove soap. But no. It stays as a sharp burst of white flowers with shampoo and soap.
An even bigger give-away for me personally is the sensation I consistently get from very cheap additives: a feeling of tightness high up in the bridge of my nose, making me feel as though I have sinusitis, along with a faint burning sensation.
The perfume continues its olfactory equivalent of assault and battery. Perhaps my brain associates those notes with powdery fragrances, and White Gardenia Petals has got a definite powdery vibe. It stems more from the musk element which starts to make its presence known about 10 minutes in. Perhaps because it is all just one cacophonous mishmash of white florals, rubbing alcohol, indoles, powder, musk, synthetics, soap, shampoo, and cotton.
Oh, did I not mention cotton? Because I also get a very strong note of fresh, clean cotton. How I wish I were making all that up. After an hour, the sillage is very low, such that I have to sniff my arm sometimes forcefully to assess how the fragrance is transforming, if at all. And it does. Many of the clashing notes fade away as White Gardenia Petals turns into simple gardenia scent with a faint undertone of creamy, custard-y, banana-like ylang-ylang. Alas, the soap still remains, as do the hinting wafts of cheap hairspray.
Ten hours in, I can still smell some form of cheap, floral soap on my wrist. They say perfumers love synthetic additives because they multiply the longevity of a perfume I think it may be because of the shape of the molecules , in addition to being a cheap shortcut.
I applied it liberally because it was not potent from the vial. I am addicted to soaps, too so this is one fragrance that would make a perfect 'everyday' perfume instead of my usual 'here I am!! I do wonder if sprayed from a bottle would it go on more intensely? Funny I actually didn't even know who Kate Middleton was and no I don't live under a rock.
I wish I did sometimes. I just love Gardenia. I was on the mailing list for this to be restocked for a sample. Waited a long time. When it was in stock I ordered a sample and I bought the bottle right away. This is an unapologetic soapy gardenia skin scent. It is not super green. It just smells elegant. I wear this to the gym and I get compliments all the time.
It's a safe office scent too. Its a love for me. Love, love love it I shall be placing an order, Thanks. I received this as a complimentary sample with a bunch of others. Alas, I think there is too much LotV for this to work for me. It is harsh and metallic, just like I find most other LotV scents. A lot of people have mentioned hairspray, but I get bathroom cleaner.
Scrubbing bubbles. I love this. I put my sample in an empty spray vial and when I sprayed it last night I was wondering Then I realized It smells like the salon. I didn't realize I loved that smell until it was right under my nose. The first spray of WGP is sharp and almost chemical, fancy salon products A smell that I did not realize I find absolutely intoxicating. Who knew? Drydown is a soft, almost creamy white floral. There is something almost generic about this one, but to me it is part of its charm.
It's weird. It's good! I ordered a sample and fell in love with it. Very pleasant, soft and feminine. Smells wonderful from top to base. Highly recommended! Straight after Kate Middleton's wedding and the hype about her perfume in the press, I ordered an original sample of this perfume from London where it is made. Loved, loved the sample in a tiny vial from UK. At that time it was not available in the USA.
Fast forward to last month and my husband ordered a large bottle from Lucky Scent.
