These are all names of Avengers, but there is one name often gets forgotten. That name is Hawkeye, one of the key members of the Avengers. No one really thinks of Hawkeye as a superhero, although he often fights alongside superheroes.
Perhaps it's because he doesn't exhibit the same kind of superpowers, but then again, neither does Black Widow. Maybe it's because his alter-ego Clint Barton isn't really all that exciting. Maybe it's because Marvel even seems to forget that he exists in the movies. Perhaps it's because Marvel doesn't seem to know what to do with the character.
Whatever the reason, though, Hawkeye often seems to get categorized as one of those heroes that people simply forget about.
When they do remember him, it's usually with a thought like "Oh, yeah, that guy," followed by a "what does he even do? There is so much that most people don't know about Hawkeye.
It turns out that he is a lot more interesting and powerful than anyone could have ever guessed. Believe it or not, he is an integral part of the Avengers and their history. Although everyone now knows Hawkeye as one of the Avengers, that wasn't always the case. In his introduction in Tales of Suspense 57 in , he was actually a villain, albeit a reluctant one.
He remained a villain in two more issues of that comic book, although it seemed the writers had much more in store for the character. He went from being a villain to joining the Avengers in his fourth comic book appearance in in Avengers That didn't take long, did it?
Since then, he has become a lasting member of the team, which has raised him to superhero status. He did pretty well for a guy with just a bow and arrows. One might think that Hawkeye has some crazy military history or spent time on an island to have learned his mad archery skills. The truth is that he didn't learn them to become a superhero or to help those in need.
Hawkeye actually first learned how to use a bow and arrow as a circus act. He was trained by another circus performer named the Swordsman, who turned Hawkeye into a master archer. He took those skills and became a star attraction with the circus. It wasn't until after he saw Iron Man that he thought about using his skills to help others. He also met Black Widow, which put him on the straight and narrow. Although comic book fans know Clint Barton as Hawkeye, he wasn't always Hawkeye, at least not in the comic books.
After Clint got involved with Dr. Hank Pym, he learned all about Pym Particles. As most know, Pym Particles can generally make someone shrink or get bigger. Clint used the particles to get bigger and became a superhero known as Goliath, a superhero name formerly belonging to Dr. Pym himself. It was after Hawkeye's brief stint as Goliath that he switched to a different superhero team. After he got into a fight with Vision over the affections of Scarlet Witch, he jealously quit the Avengers.
He then got into a fight with Daredevil over Black Widow. Hawkeye bounced around all over the place, helping out where he could, but never belonging to any one team.
However, he wound up hanging out at Doctor Strange's house, where he decided to join the Defenders. He didn't stay with the Defenders for long, however. After a few issues, he returned to the Avengers, where his real loyalty lies. He's an Avenger at heart, in spite of his occasional problems with the group. In the comics, Clint did fall for Black Widow, but she wasn't the woman he ultimately ended up with. After meeting Bobbi Morse, aka Mockingbird, Clint wound up falling in love with her.
Of course, this is comic book love, and nothing ever lasts. The two had their issues, like any couple, but they stayed in love until Mockingbird sacrificed herself to save her husband. After that, Hawkeye separated himself from the world. Everyone might think that Hawkeye joining the Avengers was on the up and up and that someone came to him and asked him to join. Or maybe they think that he asked nicely to become a part of the team. That's not quite what happened. Instead, to clear his name, Hawkeye broke into the Avengers mansion with the help of butler Edwin Jarvis.
He confronted the Avengers, including Iron Man. Barton and the other guards were quickly overpowered and Barton was promptly enslaved into Loki's service. For a time, Barton served Loki as a guard, enforcer, and assassin, completely without volition. When Loki was incarcerated in the S. Helicarrier, Barton led a commando raid against the vessel to extricate him, as well as to directly add to the chaos that Loki was seeding within his enemies.
The attack drew him into direct conflict with Black Widow, his staunchest ally, who bested him in close quarters and scored a blow to his head that helped to dislodge Loki's hold over him. Upon recovering from the ordeal, Barton vowed to put Loki down, going so far as to propose an arrow to the Asgardian's eye socket. To that end he willingly grabbed his equipment and offered to pilot Captain America and Black Widow to Loki's location, which had been determined as New York City.
Once there, the trio formed up with Thor Odinson, Dr. The group quickly found themselves embroiled in a battle for New York City against a huge invasion force of Chitauri, whom Loki had summoned using the Tesseract. Barton, now using his codename "Hawkeye", initially fought the alien warriors on the streets before switching to a higher vantage point atop a high-rise building to snipe at the alien air support.
At one point he even took a shot at Loki, and although the aim was true, Loki simply snatched the arrow from the air before it struck. Hawkeye had planned in advance however, and had rigged the arrow with an explosive head that knocked Loki's transport out of the sky. When the battle was over Hawkeye and the others parted company. He and Agent Romanoff returned to the service of S. A man of few words, Barton had always been the silent one. He is often "up in his nest", which means that he prefers to be alone.
When he was brainwashed by Loki, he didn't hesitate to attack his fellow teammates, such as Black Widow. In battle, he seems to be confident on his abilities. He even went as far as not to look at his target. He also stated that it would be his pleasure to fight with the Avengers. Instead, she fires off one that makes a van explode, causing her to ask in alarm, "There are arrows more dangerous than that one? It's a direct response to how he described - and basically criticised himself - in Avengers: Age of Ultron , where he said: "The city is flying and we're fighting an army of robots.
And I have a bow and arrow. Nothing makes sense. The idea of Clint just being a guy with a bow and arrow stuck with him across his time in the MCU. Compared to Hawkeye's Avengers teammates , most of whom possessed more obvious and enhanced abilities, there was a sense that Hawkeye was a lesser member of the team, and perhaps even viewed himself as such.
That should never have been the case though, since Clint is someone who, while not possessing of super strength or lightning power, uses his arrows in an incredibly varied amount of ways. He has an astonishing range of trick arrows in the comics, ranging from acid to smoke bomb to tear gas and more, essentially making him something akin to an arrow-focused version of Batman in terms of tech.
